[1205.27] For Friends

recreated from "Thank You Forever My Friend!"
by hellen exlley

the best moments are shared with you. thank you for being beside me to experience the joy that life gives. thank you for comfort and laughter. for your voice on the phone. your stories. your cheerfulness. your friendship. for all the little, sudden, unexpected surprises. it is not only the great kindnesses that you have shown me but all the small and often silly things that we have done to make a smile. how dull life will have been without you. you are someone who stands by me in any adventure - to face a challenge, to defend a right, to rectify a wrong, to help snails cross a path.

good things wouldn't be so good and bad things couldn't be so bearable if i haven't you to share them. thank you for being the best of friends. here's to the grins, the tears and sighs and whispered secrets, the triumphs and disasters we have shared.

everyone needs a great friend. i'm lucky i have you. a friend who believes in me when no one else does; who listens when the tale has been heard a hundred times before. who's there for me when things break and helps me to pick up the pieces and glue the bits together. thank you for being there when i was embarking on something idiotic. thank you for simply being you - constant in loyalty, unfailing in understanding.

thanks for being prepared to pop round at a moment's notice to get a late night snack or to watch a movie or to help a snail cross the road. what would i do without you? you make no dramatic gestures, give no solemn lectures - you simply make the time for tea and smiles. thanks for chats and thanks for happy quiet times. thanks for just being here.

a friend like you is the one person with whom i don't have to be clever or sophisticated or adult or responsible. you make all the right noises when i call you with some tale of woe. it's good to know that someone as awesome as you is always on my side. your knock on the door or your call to go out are the best excuses i know for setting aside routine.

there are times in life when we most need friends. on standby. ready to do anything or go anywhere. thank you for doing, being, just that. a friend who calls up on a sudden sunny day and says “time to fly a kite!” you double the fun. friends are people who go on delightful conspiratorial sprees together, raiding shops, diving in and out of ice-cream spots, and ending up with just enough energy to get home.

there is such a difference between being a little daft all on your own and being a little daft together. there are times when i needed someone to share a secret, times when i needed someone to rejoice with me over an achievement. and those are the times when only you-my friend-will do. you give me your time - the most generous gift of all.
